Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Fusionex Innovations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, 3rd August 2020 at Universiti Teknologi MARA. This event significantly marked another UiTM smart industry partnership.The MoU was signed by UiTM Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Datuk IR Dr Mohd Azraai bin Kassim and Mr Chen Keat Ming, Vice President of Fusionex. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Professor Ts Dr Haryani Haron, Dean, Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences and Mr Ng Wei Keong Fusionex General Manager.

As the largest comprehensive university in Malaysia, UiTM has expanded its visibility and continues to play an important role in nation building by providing innovative education and unleashing potentials in science, technology, humanities and entrepreneurship.

This collaboration with Fusionex, a multi-award AI and Big Data technology leader aims to foster the next generation of highly digital skilled graduates, who are very much in demand in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital era.

“By leveraging on UiTM and Fusionex strengths, we can strategize to find viable and efficient solutions as we adapt to a new way of working and living post COVID-19,” said, Professor Emeritus Datuk IR Dr Mohd Azraai bin Kassim, during the event. He also added that this collaboration initiated by the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM) can help narrow the gap of tech talents in AI and Big Data analytics in Malaysia.

One of the first outcomes of the partnership is the development of an interactive Big Data and Advanced Analytics-powered COVID-19 dashboard that displays information on the spread of the coronavirus cases in Malaysia, across states and districts. The ‘Malaysia COVID-19 Updates Dashboard’, is available at UiTM website (https://www.uitm.edu.my/index.php/en/covid-19).

“As the world slowly recuperates from the effects of the coronavirus, digital technologies will be the foremost driving factor to aid in global recovery efforts. Fusionex is delighted to be collaborating with UiTM to nurture the next generation of highly skilled individuals capable of overcoming all obstacles, especially those caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope this partnership allows students to push the frontiers of Big Data technology, and in doing so, discover revolutionary breakthroughs that will change the world for the better,” said Chen Keat Ming, VP Fusionex.

This MOU opens great opportunities for knowledge transfer and talent development in Big Data and Analytics and digital technology. UiTM undergraduates and graduates will gain internships and employment opportunities, as well as collaborate on research projects utilizing the latest Big Data technology at Fusionex.

This collaborative partnership is in line with UiTM and Fusionex’s initiatives to foster the next generation of Big Data and digital technology experts. UiTM students can gain direct exposure to the practical applications of digital technologies, which will increase their capabilities of contributing innovative and groundbreaking ideas early in their career.
